Title: Team Canada Location: Quebec City Link out: Click here Date: 2008-12-05
Team Canada are DJ Grandtheft from Montreal and DJ D.R.one. The two began their careers together throwing rip-roaring parties on the East Coast and released their first album together in 2004 called “Classic Material Volume 1″. They’ve gotten so big that even DJ Z-Trip played one of their tracks, without a shoutout I must add. Recently, the group signed with DJ AM’s management team in LA joining a strong team of AM, A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Eli Escobar, Stretch Armstrong, DJ Spider, DJ Fashen, Kevin Scott, DJ Scene and Pase Rock. Team Canada are signing their own DJs too with Jr. Flo (Toronto) Illo (Ottawa) Pump (Calgary) and Hedspin (Vancouver), forming their own crew/management agency: The Eh! Team. Check out them out in Quebec City on December 5th where they’ll be playing club bangers like the one embedded below.
Kid Koala is on the road supporting his newest album on Ninja Tune, Your Mom’s Favorite DJ. On this record he shows that his chosen means of..the turntable) is used not as a way of showing that he can do faster crabs than anyone else, but as a way of telling stories. Although there is the romance, silent movie comedy and swing that your mother may well smile at and even shake her booty to, the enthralling deftness and complexity you’d expect from Kid Koala is also here – woven together with classic hip hop beats, breaks and generous swathes of heavy guitars.
In between performing with groups Miracle Fortress and Telefauna, Amethyst Amulet was handcrafted with the tools Adam Waito had available in his Montreal apartment. In the spirit of long-lost concept albums of the past, Amethyst Amulet tells a story through unified musical and lyrical themes, yet remains, essentially, a collection of good pop songs about love and small-town remembrance, earnestly but playfully composed and humbly realized at home in the big city.
Toronto based band Tokyo Police Club have made their cover of The Rentals’ “Friends Of P” available to stream and download at friendsofp.org. The song was previously only available on the bonus disc to the U.K. version of Elephant Shell, but the band have teamed up with the Lupus Foundation Of America to give more people a chance to hear it. All money raised from donations made on the site will go to lupus research. The first 50 people who donate $15 or more will receive a free “Friends Of P” tote bag.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body attacks and destroys its own tissue and cells. It has no cure, can be fatal, and can damage the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver, skin, lungs, brain and other body parts.
