Elorious Cain is the DJ responsible for CKCU’s longest running disco program, The Groove. After almost 30 years on the air, Elorious Cain has become an iconic and highly influential DJ that has eagerly dedicated his energies to mentoring successful DJs like Teknobrat and Alison Wonderland, and inspiring a multitude of other Djs including Trevor Walker, Lance Baptiste, Koda, VH3 and John Deacon to name just a few. He’ll be playing at Mercury Lounge on Thursday, November 13th.

elodieO is the super cute New York City LES/Nublu electro scene girl who was originally from Paris. Her sound is a mix of 60’s Nico-esque pop and 90’s golden era trip-hop. Check her out at the Mercury Lounge in Ottawa on November 20th. Also, be sure to check out her album which features guest spots from several internationally know artists, including Aaron and Jesse of the Brazilian Girls.

Forrótimo are a Montreal band consisting of vocalist/guitarist Rodrigo Salazar, accordionist Francis Covan and percussionist Fabrice Laurent. Their music can be described as a lively dance music featuring the accordion, triangle and zabumba (bass drum) that originated in culturally rich, yet impoverished northeastern Brazil. They also have an assortment of very Qubecois sounding tracks such as La Rue principale. Check them out at the Mercury Lounge on Saturday, November 22nd.

    Walker brings a surreality to his sets that take listeners on a journey. Jazz remains the binding influence behind the music he plays, giving him the flexibility to incorporate and investigate different sounds in his sets. Walker’s ability to get a dance floor moving is in no doubt attributed to the fact that as a break dancer in the early part of his career he knows what makes people move.

    The BoyScout Killers are an Ottawa band that I have a very hard time describing. They’re weird. Good weird… great weird – but so weird. They describe themselves accurately as IDM/Experimental/Psychedelic. Really, you have to see/hear them to really understand. They’re so much fun and unlike a lot of bands these days, they’re truly one of a kind.

    They’re playing at the Mercury Lounge here in Ottawa on September 30th. And they put on an awesome show. Yes, that’s a big hint.

    Brazilian music, Afro, reggae, jazz, funk… Nothing is off limits for this incredible artist simply known as Rommel. Born in 1987 in São Luís, Northern Brazil, Rommel was destined to have close connections with music. Raised in a family of musicians, he grew up admiring his grandparents’, father’s and sister’s talents. Precociously gifted, Rommel won his first music festival competition at the age of 14 and since then participated in several other music festivals mainly in his hometown, São Luís.
