Kathleen Edwards played for the troops in Afghanistan recently. “Troops on the base enjoyed a festive celebration and in addition to receiving treats from the man in the red suit, they were entertained by Canadian comedian Mike Macdonald and Ottawa singer Kathleen Edwards.” Whoa. That girl must have balls the size of China to go down there. I guess she was well protected though. Much respect to her. Don’t forget the following shows and venues:

The Vancouver-based band Mother Mother have just put out their sophomore album, O MY HEART, out on Last Gang Records. This is the same record label that has signed such bands as Metric, DFA 1979 and The New Pornographers. The band provides an artistic and original expression of modern pop music that contains rich vocal harmony, deeply poetic lyricism, and dynamic instrumentation. You can hear all the hits from their old albums as well as tracks you may have never heard before at their CD release party at Richard’s On Richards in Vancouver BC on November 28th.

Delhi 2 Dublin consist of 5 musicians who bring together electronica and world beats, all the while mashing up Bhangra, Celtic and Dub flavors. The band brings together tabla, fiddle, dhol, Punjabi vocals, and electric sitar over electronic beats that range from reggae to drum and bass. The band has put together some incredible performances such as Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in March of 2006 as well as Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in 2007. The band will be rocking Lucky Bar in Victoria BC on Friday, November 28th.
