Title: Komodo Dubs Location: Society for Arts and Technology, Montreal Link out: Click here Date: 2008-11-22
Komodo is a Montreal-based DJ who plays fast dub and includes an Australian didgeridoo in his sets. He also uses a Turkish ney and bendir. I’m not even sure what that is but I’m sure it sounds awesome. His live performances feature heavy beats and bass that sound great in a packed night club. Check him out at SAT (Society for Arts and Technology) in Montreal on Saturday November 22nd. Tickets are $10 presale, $15 at the door. His album is also available here.
Title: Girl Talk Location: Toronto Link out: Click here Date: 2008-11-12
Girl Talk is the club kid superstar that brought us all those insane mashups featuring more artists than could fit on an iPod. His 4th album, Feed the Animals, is out right now and if you pay over $10, then you are pre-ordering a physical copy of the CD, which will be out later. I’m looking forward to when he touches down in Toronto on November 12th and then follows up in Montreal the next day.
Title: Jokers of the Scene Location: Kingston Link out: Click here Date: 2008-11-21
Jokers of the Scene, the super sick DJ duo from Ottawa are coming back to Canada after a massive Europe tour. They’ll be playing in Kingston on the 21st and then heading back to their hometown in Ottawa on the 22nd.
These guys put together an awesome show featuring remixes of underground favorites DJ Blaqstarr (Mad Decent), Muscles (Modular) and Brodinski (Mental Groove). Having been signed to A-Trak’s Fools Gold label, they’re going to do great things in 2008/2009. Check out their shows if you’re in the area.
Title: The Martinez Brothers Location: TIME SUPPER CLUB, Montreal Link out: Click here Date: 2008-12-27
The Martinez Brothers are Chris and Steve from the Bronx who are described as a young soulful-house duo. They released their first single, My Rendition, when Chris was 15 and Steve was 18. They’re going to put on a hype show at Time Supper Club in Montreal on December 27th. Noice.
King Sunshine illuminates disco roots and drop inflections of funk and dance rhythms, reinventing house music and driving the whole fusion over the red line. Imagine nine musicians transformed into one live DJ.
Moonstarr performing his track `Detriot` live in Strasbourg / Faces Records residency
Moonstarr is indeed one busy cat. If he’s not busy on the phone holding things down on the biz side for his label Public Transit Recordings, the man’s hunkered down behind closed doors over his synths, drum machines, and samplers to bang out some killer beats.
He’s got a brand new album out, in fact, entitled Instrumentals Forever - a 12 tracks, 5 interludes album with appearances from Fineprint, Lotus Jai Nitai, LAL, Sarah Linhares. Styles are from the classic Moonstarr era. Expect dirty breaks, butter loops, broken technessss etc…
Catch him at one of the following shows or stay tuned to TCR for future concert listings.

Kid Koala is on the road supporting his newest album on Ninja Tune, Your Mom’s Favorite DJ. On this record he shows that his chosen means of..the turntable) is used not as a way of showing that he can do faster crabs than anyone else, but as a way of telling stories. Although there is the romance, silent movie comedy and swing that your mother may well smile at and even shake her booty to, the enthralling deftness and complexity you’d expect from Kid Koala is also here - woven together with classic hip hop beats, breaks and generous swathes of heavy guitars.
