King Sunshine illuminates disco roots and drop inflections of funk and dance rhythms, reinventing house music and driving the whole fusion over the red line. Imagine nine musicians transformed into one live DJ.
Moonstarr performing his track `Detriot` live in Strasbourg / Faces Records residency
Moonstarr is indeed one busy cat. If he’s not busy on the phone holding things down on the biz side for his label Public Transit Recordings, the man’s hunkered down behind closed doors over his synths, drum machines, and samplers to bang out some killer beats.
He’s got a brand new album out, in fact, entitled Instrumentals Forever – a 12 tracks, 5 interludes album with appearances from Fineprint, Lotus Jai Nitai, LAL, Sarah Linhares. Styles are from the classic Moonstarr era. Expect dirty breaks, butter loops, broken technessss etc…
Catch him at one of the following shows or stay tuned to TCR for future concert listings.

Another one of my personal favourites – the Souljazz Orchestra will be playing at Barrymore’s right here in Ottawa tonight at 9:00pm. If this is too last-minute for you I completely understand. But that’s no reason to not hit up one of their other shows in November now, is it?
And their November dates will be celebrating the release of their brand new album Manifesto - so be there for the party!
3 Oct 2008 21:00 Barrymore’s Ottawa, Ontario
14 Nov 2008 21:00 Supermarket Toronto, Ontario
21 Nov 2008 21:00 Divan Orange Montreal, Quebec
22 Nov 2008 21:00 Le Cercle Quebec, Quebec
Gypsophilia was initially inspired by the music of French jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, but soon found its own distinctive sound through unique original compositions and the melding of the band members’ varied backgrounds and influences, including tango, klezmer, funk, classical music, hard bop and post bop.
Kobo Town is a Toronto-based group whose music draws its inspiration from traditional calypso, roots reggae and dub poetry. Named after the vibrant and turbulent neighbourhood in old Port-of-Spain where calypso was born, the group strives to recover the social conscience, satirical storytelling and strong acoustic/organic rhythms that characterized Trinidadian music in the past.
Kobo Town doesn’t currently have any upcoming shows, but stay tuned to TransCanada Radio – we’ll keep you posted!
People Project brings the divergent influences of blues and Latin together in a dynamic fusion of folk, funk and roots music. Brazilian rhythms meet the harmonic language of blues and jazz, featuring bossa style guitar, funk bass, and overlaid with sax, flute and blues-tinged vocals in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Kid Koala is on the road supporting his newest album on Ninja Tune, Your Mom’s Favorite DJ. On this record he shows that his chosen means of..the turntable) is used not as a way of showing that he can do faster crabs than anyone else, but as a way of telling stories. Although there is the romance, silent movie comedy and swing that your mother may well smile at and even shake her booty to, the enthralling deftness and complexity you’d expect from Kid Koala is also here – woven together with classic hip hop beats, breaks and generous swathes of heavy guitars.
This is the brand new video from Calgary’s Chad VanGaalen for his song “Molten Light” off of his newly released album Soft Airplane which came out on September 9th on Sub Pop Records.
