Land of Talk @ The Lo Pub (Winnipeg) Nov 6

virtuosic guitar playing by lizzie

Land of Talk is a female-fronted guitar rock juggernaut . They have been described as a destructive Stevie Nicks/Blonde Redhead mutant, Will Oldham meets Sonic Youth, and as a PJ Harvey-meets-Crazy Horse type creature.

The Olympic Symphonium @ The Capitol Theater (Moncton) Nov 15

The Olympic Symphonium is a unique collaboration between three accomplished Maritime musicians. With the hopes of forming a quiet escape from their accustomed high-energy rock/pop projects, the idea of this group was to focus more on the subtle, gentler side of music. The group released their stunning debut, Chapter 1, in early 2007. The album has been distributed, reviewed and sold all over the world and is now out of print. Over the past year, the band recorded their follow-up in a clothing store, a house, a shed and a field. The result is More In Sorrow Than In Anger, a collection of 10 intimate and interesting songs that require multiple listens. Their eclectic mix of guest musicians featuring Catherine MacLellan, Dale Murray (Cuff The Duke), Jenn Grant, Joel Leblanc (Hot Toddy) and Rose Cousins help highlight the group’s unique and personal sound. The three members, Nick Cobham, Kyle Cunjak and Graeme Walker, all share singing and songwriting duties while rotating around various instruments. The album opens with a piano/classical guitar duet and moves through beautiful, melodic pop to soft, slow yearnings and dramatic sting-laden stories of personal contemplation. Lately the Olympic Symphonic have secured funding from the province of New Brunswick and FACTOR, earned consistent airplay on national CBC and campus radio and were lucky enough to have shared the stage with artists such as Hayden, Jason Collett, Al Tuck, Bruce Guthro, Joel Plaskett and Snailhouse.

Josh playing with Jewish Legend

Josh Reichmann played/ wrote songs for and co-conducted the vibes for Tangiers -the best rock group from a few years ago. Then the band broke up. Many feelings and some time later Josh recorded a record under the name Jewish Legend. More time and more feelings elapsed, things grew, stuff happened and THE ORACLE band was formed. The band supports Josh’s song writing and is the soul and template for his musical stylings and expression which are amazing/varied/, both earthly and out of this world.

MuyAfroFunke Thursdays with DJ Trevor Walker!

Walker brings a surreality to his sets that take listeners on a journey. Jazz remains the binding influence behind the music he plays, giving him the flexibility to incorporate and investigate different sounds in his sets. Walker’s ability to get a dance floor moving is in no doubt attributed to the fact that as a break dancer in the early part of his career he knows what makes people move.

From Bebel Gilberto, Da lata, Zuco 103, Gil Scot Heron, Fred Everything, Gilles Peterson, Joe Claussell, King Brit, to Mari Rossi, Miguel Graca, Moreno Veloso, Nitin Sawhney, Norman Jay, Patrick Forge, Phil Asher, Rainer Truby, Dj Tahira, Talvin Singh, UFO, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Mark de Clive Lowe and Bembe Segue, Alice Russel with TM Juke to name only a few.
