Meaghan Blanchard is a 19 year old singer/songwriter from Hunter River PEI. Her passion is music. She will enter her third year at the University of Prince Edward Island this fall and has been performing since she was very young in front of school, church and community benefit concert audiences, graduating to all ages shows and coffee houses in high school and now to concert venues, bars, and restaurants. She is set to release her very first album “Changing Things”. The official CD launch will take place at the Guild on September 12th. The album was recorded in Charlottetown at Big Grey Sound Studios. It was produced by John Connolly and engineered by Jon Matthews. Mastering was handled by Paul Milner.
Meaghan began writing songs at 14 just after she took up the guitar which has become her instrument of choice. She plays both acoustic and electric and tries her hand at piano as well.
Meaghan was selected to showcase not once but twice on the Music PEI stage during ECMA 2008 in Fredericton in acknowledgement of her talents both as a performer and a songwriter. She has played numerous all ages shows, coffee houses and community benefits as she continues to develop her skills and talents. Meaghan is also be featured in a pod cast series produced by Sandbar Music featuring 15 of the best songwriters from PEI that is now available on line for download and listening at www.closetothecoastradio.com.
When you listen to Meaghan, you are struck by her powerful but controlled voice and her ability to sing her material with total commitment. In her songwriting you will also notice a maturity beyond her years. She writes songs that connect to listeners much older than herself which is a rare gift in one so young.
The stairwell in the family home is still where you can find Meaghan playing her guitar and singing for hours whenever she is home from school. It is the place where Meaghan has found the acoustic sound that lends itself perfectly to her voice. It is where the music of Meaghan Blanchard is shaped and sculpted before it is heard in public.
One thing is for certain Meaghan Blanchard is a singer/songwriter with a bright future. Her stage presence, her voice and the songs she writes tell anyone who listens that they will be hearing much more from her sooner rather than later.
