Stay tuned to TransCanada Radio for upcoming concert dates for the fabulous Dione Taylor.
“Blues for people who hate blues,” as I’ve praised before. They distill rock ‘n’ roll, punk and country into their heady house-rockin’ punch. Give them a stage, any stage and they’ll put on the best show they can for whoever’s there. Each one is a seasoned pro on their instrument of choice but, never afraid to take chances, the boys are fond of switching it up in an on-stage game of musical chairs. To quote a much used and abused cliche, The Perpetrators have to be seen to be believed.
Julie Ann Bertram has posted her first and second albums, Jab and Ecstatic Songs respectively, on her website. She’s a fantastic musician, as I’ve mentioned before, so be sure to check out the albums while you can!
Part of Dove’s Campaign for beauty. Song: “The Lucky One” by Nick Zubeck
An inimitable stalwart of the Toronto music scene, Nick Zubeck is a versatile and accomplished guitarist, producer, and multi-intrumentalist whose talents have led him to play with Great Lake Swimmers (briefly, on bass), The Lavender Gloom (now defunct), Polmo Polpo (guitar and lap steel), and Barzin (currently). As a songwriter, he has released two albums under his own name (2002’s “A Meek Spectacle” and 2003’s “Hiding Out and Laying Low”), both of which were marked by his unequaled use of lush delicately-layered textures and unconventional song structures.
One of my personal favourite bands, the Tony D Band, will be playing at The Fat Cat (with MonkeyJunk) in St. John’s, Newfound land this coming Friday and Saturday. So if you’re in town, pop in and catch the show at 10pm. You’ll have a blast, I promise!
Just a little reminder – Ottawa band The BoyScout Killers will be playing their very progressive and unique IDM, Experimental and Psychedelic sounds. They will be joined by local artist JC Luff.
While keeping in step with his own brand of dark and sexy House, Montreal DJ Danny Torrence believes that all good records should be mixed regardless of the genre. It is this instilled belief that allows Danny to uplift, inspire and rock the dance floor like few others. Danny’s artistic vision is exceedingly broad, touching on many different styles including deep house, tribal and techno. All of these elements combined are what makes Danny’s fans describe him as “powerful and eclectic”.
Quite possibly the hardest working original rock and roll band in Toronto, Run With The Kittens have played almost three hundred shows in their four year career. Their weekly Tuesday night residency at the historic Cameron House has become a must see event, promising a fresh, entertaining night of great music, week after week. The stories of them rolling into towns throughout Ontario in their big black bus are becoming more commonplace. Winning new fans with each gig is a testament to the contagious energy of the band.
Now popular Peterborough band The Silver Hearts in a musical short entitled ‘close to the voices of trains’.
For the past five years, Peterborough’s The Silver Hearts have drawn comparisons as unique as their music. With a membership ranging from 12-17, and instrumentation consisting of the standard drums, bass, guitar, piano and the more obtuse, sousaphone, theramin, trombone, trumpet, harmonicas, and accordion, The Silver Hearts have established their own blend of burlesque swing, southern gospel, pre-war blues, field hollers: Exciting music, rooted in tradition.
