“Space Monkey” By Glory Glory Man United
“Soaring melodies, intricate riffs, skull-crushing drums.” “An assault of oddly precise, off-kilter grooves bathed in swirling, psychedelic guitars, undeniable hooks and delivered with intensity and conviction.” This is how Glory Glory Man United describe themselves.
Spawned from Atlantic Canada’s own axis of evil - Wolfville NS, Pictou NS and Richmond PE - Glory Glory Man United are a Halifax, Nova Scotia - based pop-trio-cum-noise outfit. GGMU [Adam Warren (vocals, guitar), Ryan Brown (drums, vocals), Gavin Maclean (bass, vocals)] approach music in a post-9/11 world with optimism, while singing about life, love, and the broad attempts by some to crush both. Attempts at writing catchy, treasonous pop songs that rest alongside the Lennon/McCartney canon yield a sound resembling Bloc Party and the Wooden Stars being filtered through Refused, The Flaming Lips and probably way too much late 90’s skate punk.
Active since late 2005, the band have gigged all over Atlantic Canada, to general acclaim, sharing bills with the likes of Grand Theft Bus, Jon Epworth and The Improvements, Share, Great Plains, Shelter With Thieves and Carmen Townsend. They have two EP’s under their collective belt, their now out-of-print but digitally available self-titled debut [2007, Textbook Records], and “Friends of the Seen,” [2008, From Here To There Records], produced by local rock god Jon Epworth.
