My adventure at NXNE is finally starting to get into full swing! It’s certainly been a… trying first few days in Toronto. I had half a half-bar connection to the ‘free wifi’ supplied with my booked accommodation which was totally bogus, of course. I had to sit facing a certain way to get the wifi to work for any longer than 5 minutes and then it would stop working at very key moments in posting and while attempting to set up Skype for interviews, of course. After 20 minutes of last-ditch trying to set up Skype on my cell phone, I gave up entirely on this ‘free wifi’ business. So I set out early from my room into downtown Toronto in search of a wifi connection - paid or unpaid - that was more reliable.
I waited two hours for my priority pass then was told there was no media room in which I could sit down and blog. Then after searching for a coffee shop with wifi in the neighbourhood with no success, I ventured back to find out there was in fact a press room but when I got to it, it was locked and no one seemed to know where the key was.
I sat on the floor in the hallway and set myself up to blog with all of my media equipment around me ready to unload and found out that there was a password. I finally found someone who apparently knew the password but when I returned to my seat on the floor, the password didn’t work and no one seemed to have any idea why. In a last ditch effort to blog, I hit up a Starbucks 3 blocks from the band I wanted to see only to find out that their wifi network was down…
I gave up on the internet for the night and tried to Twitter from my slightly more reliable cell phone instead.
This
turned out to be pretty useless as only half of my Twitters actually made it to the site! Flickr was nearly as unsuccessful. My night ended at 2:30am at which point I traveled all the way to Brampton to sleep only to get up at 7am to head back in to Toronto for several interviews with some awesome people (make sure to check them out! Coming very soon, I promise!). That’s when my day started to get better! And, after eating a phenomenal pizza and having a beer with Nelly Furtado’s boyfriend (oooh scandalous!), my NXNE is really starting to get in gear!
I’m feeling super confident, making quick friends with big wigs and hep cats and super rockin’ musicians!
Look out, fair readers, now that I’ve got a working wifi connection and an outlet to plug in my gear… I’m-a-gonna blog about NXNE till I can’t stop! Get comfortable!
