The ElastoCitizens were founded in Toronto in the fall of 2004 with one goal: to make people dance.
With theatrical grandeur and ecstatic stage shows, they’ve endeavoured to bring their brand of heavy groove, feel good music to the masses. Their massive, sexy, euphoria-inducing concerts have left legions of fans begging for more.
Their shows are a combination of throwback soul complete with Motown/Shangri-la brand choreography blended with a high-energy punk-funk intensity reminiscent of early Chili Peppers. One song rolls into the next in the style of a 1967 James Brown show, stirring the crowds into a smiling, sweaty, dancing frenzy.
The ElastoCitizens are a total experience that have to be seen to be believed.
So, naturally, here’s an upcoming show for you to check out:
May 10th, 2008 – Lee’s Palace w. The Heavy @ 529 Bloor St. W (Toronto, ON)
Bambi Blue
i saw these dudes live… they kinda blow. it’s way too over the top, cheesy, and try-hard. yeah sure they are high energy and peppy… but they seriously lack any originality. it seems like they are just ripping off old school funk and making it… well… lame.
Hey James – thanks for reading and commenting!
It’s good to get some real feedback about the artists I’ve profiled. Personally, I’ve only seen The ElastoCitizens on YouTube and in the context of their website. I guess I’ll have to see them live to get a real impression. I agree with you though – in general, there’s a very fine line between good, soulful funk and unimaginative, cookie cutter funk.
Again, thanks for the comment! Keep reading and feel free to comment any time. And if you’ve got good funk suggestions for me, send them my way!
